Enable an API key on your user account. The agent authenticates as you - no separate bot account, no shared admin credentials.

Letting an AI touch a live website only works if you stay in control. ChaiBuilder's MCP server is built around that.

Your permissions, nothing more

Connecting needs the mcp:use permission, and every tool is gated on the permission it needs. An account that can't publish is never offered publish_page.

Draft first, preview, then publish

Every edit saves to the draft and returns a preview link. The live site only changes when the agent publishes - and it is instructed to ask you first.

No edit collisions

While an agent is working, the builder marks the page as being edited by AI so nobody overwrites it mid-edit. The reverse holds too: an agent won't write to a page someone has open.

Everything is reversible

Each change lands in page revisions, so you can compare what the agent did and restore any earlier version in one step.

How does the free trial work?

It's a 30-day trial with no credit card and no email required. Create your project with

What does the license actually cover?

Licenses are perpetual within a version window: valid through the end of your year and eligible for any

version released in that window. When it expires, renew to stay current or keep running the last eligible version.

What's open source and what's paid?

The open-source core (

) is a basic Next.js website builder: visual builder, SQLite page storage, and rendering. The paid

package adds a set of Pro extensions on top: roles, revisions, multilingual, redirects, media management, advanced AI, multi-tenancy, and more.

Can I use a different CMS?

Yes. Payload CMS ships wired in out of the box, but there is no coupling between Payload's tables and ChaiBuilder's. Swap in any CMS you prefer.

How does Bring-Your-Own-AI work?

The AI assistant runs on Vercel AI Gateway or OpenRouter out of the box, and you can configure any custom provider via ChaiBuilder config. Usage stays under your own provider account.
